Known botanically as Odontonema strictum, firespike grows 4 to 6 feet tall all over south Florida and produces clusters of 3-inch-long, tubular red flowers. It is a small shrub with foot-long spikes of showy flowers that will appear year-round in South Florida and during fall and winter in North and <>>Central Florida. They attract hummingbirds and several species of butterflies that feed on the nectar. Firespike will grow in part shade or part sun, but place firespike in full sun for best blooming. Once established, firespike is moderately drought tolerant.<>>
A hard freeze can kill the above-ground growth, but the plant will typically return in the spring. Firespike often re-seeds itself and can also be propagated by cuttings.
You will receive a 4 inch potted plant.
